The original Temple of Artemis at Cataleos was a semi-public sacred space dedicated to Artemis. It was founded by Thista Minai in 2005 near Central Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The name Cataleos is derived from two words. The first half comes from Catalina, a small island off the coast of southern California, which is and always has been a spiritual haven for Thista Minai. The second half of the name Cataleos comes from the ancient Greek word eos, which means east. When Thista founded Cataleos, she wanted the name to reflect both the sensation of holiness and sanctuary that she feels in Catalina as well as the actual place where the temple is located: the northeast. The temple was regretfully closed when Thista moved in 2010. Thista continues to present rituals in the greater Boston area as well as at select Pagan gatherings. Rituals reflect a balance between historical accuracy, modern inspiration, and practicality.
